The start of our spring journey began with an
"exhausting" 100 mile drive from Albuquerque to the Bosque del Apache in unincorporated San Antonio, New Mexico (maybe 1000 people). The name means woods of the Apache and it is a very large wildlife refuge that is home to thousands of wintering cranes, ducks and geese, most of which had gone north at the time we were there. However, we did see a couple of beautiful Great Blue Herons, a few egrets, mallards and coots and a healthy looking coyote looking out over his domain.
Although the Bosque Birdwatchers Campground is a simple gravel parking lot with max 30 amp service, we enjoyed our stay there and will return again. The campground is owned by mama, Jaquina, and her son, Billy. Billy appears to be in his 60's and says that when working on the grounds he is just plain Pedro.

This was the inaugural voyage for the new DeLand Bounder and we were joined by Cary and Judy Hall for the christening.
The Buckhorn Bar in San Antonio is semi-famous as the winner of Bobby Flay's "Throw Down" on the Food Network. Bobby tried hard, but he couldn't beat the Buckhorn's Green Chile Cheese Burger and we had to give it a try. We know first-hand why Bobby was beat!
