Fifty years ago Dave Douglas and
Susan Faler married in Steamboat Spring, Colorado. We discussed many ways to celebrate our
special day, but Dave blew Susan’s socks off when he came home from golf and
said “Here’s what we are going to do. We are going to buy a motor home and
start traveling again.” After getting
over the shocking idea and humoring Dave (ha!), Susan had one requirement - a
Roland electronic piano. Dave found the motor home - a 2005 Pace Arrow with
room for the piano and we were on the road again!
Our plan is to be in Sacramento at
Mel’s for an anniversary weekend with family.
Mary Anne, Ali and the boys will fly out to join us at Mel’s for a
casual celebration.
The first day was a total of 86
miles to Pojoaque just N of Santa Fe. We stayed in an okay RV park (nice clean
gravel sites) but right next to the highway and lots of noise. It didn't
seem to bother us as we hit the hay and suddenly it was morning. The next
day was a lovely drive to Gunnison staying at the KOA there. We left
Gunnison at about 7 a.m. heading west to Utah via Grand Junction and Green River.
It was a very long, windy, and gas-sucking day and a driving challenge. We were exhausted from the buffeting of the
wind and the noise of the gas motor working against the wind and the hills.
Maybe we should have gone with the diesel! After a stop in Montrose for
late breakfast, we finally got set up at the Richfield, Utah KOA at about
5:30.
Well, as my friend Marcia says
"Swallow an elephant and choke on a gnat." So, I am not going
to worry about all the gas we had to put in the tank.
The Richfield, Utah KOA was one of "our" KOA's when we were field reps and it is a lovely, shady campground with green grass and nice gravel sites. We are going to stay here tomorrow also so that we can do all those little things we haven't had time for - like: remove stickers, clean the dirt out of the window tracks, wash light fixtures, clean vent fans, test the washer/dryer (wow!!) and generally have a lazy day.
Sunday we will drive to Ely NV and Monday to Carson City, and then Tuesday into Sac.
