After a wonderful week plus in Elk Grove for Noah and Tracy's wedding, we drove to Mt. Shasta, CA. WOW! Who knew the sight of Mt. Shasta could be so stunning!?! Mount Shasta is a cute little tourist town but we didn't have time to wander the shops! (That means that we enjoyed just being in our cozy cabin-on-the road.) It looks like a return visit might be in order. We stayed 2 nights at the KOA under the shade of huge Ponderosa Pines. It was the only site that would accommodate our rig and provide shade. However it was on the main road past the office to the CG trailer park. The traffic (loud pickups) was a little annoying, but we enjoyed our stay. Think next time we will probably stay at a CG in Dunsmuir. We golfed at the Mt. Shasta Golf Resort. It is a fun, but tough course with views of Mt. Shasta from nearly every hole. The area was full of blackberries and the nibbling was fun! We also drove up past McCloud to the Lower Falls of the McCloud River. We watched daring young people jump off the rocks into a deep spot in the river. Susan put her feet in the water while sitting safely on the rocks..
Back to the start of the trip, we left Albuquerque on Saturday, August 6, driving to Williams, AZ and our favorite parking-lot RV Resort a couple of blocks from the main drag in Williams. We stayed 3 nights, touring around Flagstaff and the area. We left on Tuesday, August 9, to cross the mostly boring Mojave Desert. We found the little campground in Tehatchapi where Susan had stayed on a trip to Sacramento many years ago. It is adjacent to the glider runway and the little private airport and flight school are just a short walk away. Although the campground is not well groomed, it is very private and pleasant and we will stay there from now on when we are heading across the Mojave to northern California. Dave enjoyed a glider flight and Susan loved watching. We explored the Tehatchapi area and found several pretty little valleys around the area tucked behind forbidding rock mountains. We were surprised to find that they grow quite a bit of produce in the area on private little farms. We like Tehatchapi and enjoyed seeing the many historical murals in town.
We met an RV'er along the way who told us about the 7 Feathers RV Resort and Casino at Canyonville, OR. Since it was on our way, we decided to take a look! Once into the park, you could not leave - a beautiful spot. Probably one of the best RV parks we have ever been in. Tomorrow we will golf near here at Myrtle Creek Golf Course and Saturday we will leave to go to Boardman, Oregon on the Columbia River.
